Background:
Team members Erin and Juli first visited this site while on a tour of downtown businesses. Both investigators got a sense of a presence after first walking into the establishment. They conversed with an employee named Helen who informed them of unusual occurrences that she, the owners, and other employees had experienced at the location. They were provided a tour of the location and both reported that they felt the presence of more then one possible entity. Areas of interest were the dining room areas around table #11, the upstairs banquet area, and the entire basement with special interest to a small storage room on the north side of the basement, and office area.
Occurrences that were reported were cold spots in the banquet room, items moving on table #11, i.e. Wine glasses that appeared to move in the presence of the Owners and other employees with no reasonable explanation being found. (It should be noted that during one occurrence, the Owners stated that when the glass moved, they picked it up and checked for moisture condensation on the bottom of the glass. This moisture could have contributed to the glass moving, none was found. The glass and table were wiped dry, the glass placed back in it's original spot and it again moved on it's own accord.) Another employee also stated that he had witnessed movement of shadows, or what appeared to be shadows while in the kitchen area. He further stated that there are mirrors in the proximity of the entry doors to the kitchen that could also have contributed to this. One of the Owners, Hope, stated that the small room in the basement was one area she did not want to go into. She also stated that while working in the office area in the basement, she had experienced the sound of papers moving while tallying nightly receipts. She stated she would be at the desk and turn to open or deposit items in the safe. She stated it sounded like papers being shuffled, and when she would turn back around, she could not find any evidence of anything being moved. Her husband and Co-Owner Bill also stated that he had also experienced occurrences ranging from shadows being seen in the kitchen area.
An appointment was made to return to the location by Erin, accompanied by Tim to speak to the owners about a possible investigation at the location. Hope and Bill, Owners, were both in attendance and signed paperwork authorizing an investigation was returned to Tim. The Owners also chose full disclosure for this investigation. Erin and Tim were taken on a short walk through the location to include the office area, the banquet room, the kitchen briefly, and the remaining basement area.
Hope first escorted Tim and Erin into the office area where she reported that shortly after acquiring the business, she experienced what sounded like papers being shuffled when she turned from the desk towards the safe. There was a small fan on the desk that was pointed out. However, she stated that this occurred during the winter months and that the fan, while still there, was not used at that time. Hope then escorted Erin and Tim back to the ground floor and down to the other side of the basement, which was not accessible from the basement level.
All parties then moved forward down an aisle that was next to an outside wall with shelving for supplies storage on the right. Significant EMF readings were detected and were attributed to electrical panels and overhead conduit. There were also appliances to include a washer, dryer, and freezer/cooling unit located on the right. While touring the basement area near where other supplies were stored, Tim moved around some shelving and peered around a corner and noticed what appeared to be a pillar of grayish light that appeared to move off quickly when he looked into the area.
When moving towards the most northern room, Tim and Erin did not detect any movement immediately. The room is small in size and does have a lower ceiling with could contribute to a general feeling of closeness. Also it was not a well lighted as the adjoining room, which also contributed to an overall feeling of uneasiness. After a brief tour of the basement area, all persons then moved up and into the dining area and observed table #11 where items had been reported as moving. Again significant EMF readings were detected in this area and attributed to overhead lighting and possible wiring within the walls.
Hope then pointed out what appeared to be a stainless steel setup cart located outside the kitchen area. She stated that it had been reported that on at least one occasion, utensils reportedly had been flung off of the cart with no reasonable explanation being found. Tim moved to perform an EMF sweep near the cart and detected significant EMF hits again. After turning away from the cart and facing Erin and Hope, he felt his shirt being pulled away from his back as if someone had grabbed in and gave it a significant tug.
Shortly after, Tim and Erin set a tentative investigation date and time with Hope and stated that they would first have to assemble the team and insure that there were sufficient members available for the investigation. Once this was determined, HPT would then contact the Owners and confirm the date and time. The Owners agreed that this would be acceptable. A follow up call was placed to the owners the next day with a confirmed investigation time of 2330 hours on Saturday, August 25th 2007.
During the walk through, Tim carried both a Ghostmeter and digital RCA recorder. Upon review of the recorder, Tim found that they had recorded two possible EVP's.
Additional Background Information:
This restaurant is the second building to occupy the land on which it is located. Historical records indicate that the original structure was known as the Buckhorn Hotel. Records indicated it was one of the first permanent structures in the City of Hastings up until a fire at the turn of the century. After this time, the present building was constructed. At this writing, historical research is being undertaken by HPT to provide a better historical background into the location in an attempt to try and determine if historical events may contribute to the amount of activity that has been described as occurring.
Structure and Location:
The building appears to be constructed of bricks, consists of two stories with the entire first floor and a section of the second floor dedicated to the business. There are also apartments on the upper floor of the building. The building is situated next to the Highway 61-river bridge and appears to share a common wall with another business. There is an electrical substation located behind the building and also high-voltage power lines nearby. This proximity to the substation and power lines may account for some of the extremely high EMF readings, but more research should be done to confirm this. Traffic on the bridge can be heard within the building especially large trucks or vehicles with loud exhaust.
Investigation:
HPT members first assembled at Tim's home for a brief introduction of the new members and to review an investigation plan that had been drawn up. Member assignments were given to all members to initially begin the investigation. Assignments were…
Tim, Judy - Will float between other teams, investigate the dining room and kitchen, will coordinate movement of other team members. Will coordinate table 11 experiment with owners.
Juli, Josh - Will begin investigation in ballroom area. Will trade out with team members in team 3 in basement area, particularly the office area.
Erin, Nate, Jessica, JJ - Will begin investigation in large basement area. Team members will separate into two (2) person teams for better coverage of area. Team members will be rotated out to other areas of the business.
After the meeting, team members departed for the location at 2315 with arrival at approximately 2330. Upon entry, team members were greeted by Owners Hope and Bill who were accompanied by other employees and friends at the bar area. Bill then asked if there was anything that the team required to which Tim asked if the lighting could be lowered in the dining area. Tim then informed Bill that the team would begin setting up equipment in various areas in the location to include isolating a camera on table #11. Judy then set up her Hi 8 video camera on a tripod facing table #11. A video camera was placed inside the kitchen area on a counter pointing towards the basement door. After placement, the doors wer then closed. A digital recorder was placed on a shelf in the office area; a digital recorder was placed on table #11. A video camera was placed in the banquet room in the eastern side of the room facing the entry and stairwell areas. Equipment assignments were as follows…Josh was requested to carry a digital recorder and boom mike for the evening. JJ was asked to carry a Ghostmeter EMF meter while Juli carried a digital recorder and initially dowsing rods. Erin carried a digital camera; Judy carried a recorder, and shared dowsing rods with Juli. Jessica also carried a recorder, and Tim carried a recorder and Cell Sensor EMF meter.
After the equipment setup was complete, Tim then led Erin, Nate, Jessica and JJ to the basement area and pointed out areas of interest. Erin and JJ stationed themselves in the area near a door that, if operable, would allow passage into the office area. Nate and Jessica were directed towards the dry storage area and into the small room. Initially, all members were asked to remain in their designated areas for at least a period of 30 to 45 minutes. Tim then turned off overhead lighting on the way back upstairs and rejoined Judy in the dining area. Judy had just returned from escorting Juli and Josh up into the banquet area. Judy stated that while in the stairway area, she thought she heard the sound of a male moaning, but was not able to determine the source of the sound.
Office Area:
After positioning the other team members, Judy and Tim then made their way towards the office area. When crossing through the door to the office, both Judy and Tim indicated to each other that again the sound of a male voice was heard. Once in the office area, Tim did an EMF sweep of the office. He had to reset the sensitivity on the EMF meter due to the high EMF readings that were being detected due to overhead conduit. Also in the area were electrical service panels and computer equipment on the wall opposite the desk. There was a door immediately to right of the desk that did not appear to have been used due to an accumulation of items in front of it.
While in this area, Judy and Tim could both detect the sound of Erin calling on the other side of the door. Note was made of this so that other members could be aware that team members voices may be detected on the recorder placed in the office area. Judy stated she was more aware of a presence in the stairway area then in the office itself, but stated that there did appear to possibly be a male entity the would visit the area. Judy and Tim then moved towards the entry area to the office where Tim swept a raised shelf area for EMF's. None were detected in this area that appeared outside of the norm for previously detected EMF's. Juli reported that while in this area using the infrared thermometer, a noticeable temperature difference was noted around and under the desk. While there did appear to be a small space for air to pass through under the wall, no cause could be determined for the temperature difference. Judy also heard what sounded like chimes while in this area. JJ also reported hearing a similar sound while she was in this area.
Boiler Room:
While standing in the doorway, Judy asked Tim if he would proceed down a narrow aisle towards a green wooden door. Tim moved towards the door and performed EMF sweeps along the way. Once he reached the door, he pushed it partially open. The door appeared to be sticking on the floor, so Tim had to push a little harder to get it to open far enough to enter the room. Judy followed Tim down the aisle calling to see if she could get a response from someone. She stated that after asking "Can you tell me your name?" She heard a male voice reply with "William". Shortly thereafter, Bill approached Tim and Judy and stated that the boiler was located in there and that it was OK for the team to investigate this area also. Tim entered the room and proceeded to the left of the room next to the boiler and a hot water heater. There appeared to be old furniture articles in the center of the room along with some shelving. Judy then pushed the door partway shut and remained in the general area of the door. Tim and Judy began calling in an attempt to bolster a response from any entity that may be in the area. He asked Judy if she was able to pick up on anything and she stated that she was detecting the presence of a male entity that appeared to be somewhat afraid to come forward. She also stated that she felt he was back in the area of the wall at the far end of the room. Tim again attempted calling and trying to enlist a response from the entity. A couple of times, a soft bang was heard in response to Tim's questions. Tim pointed out to Judy that since he was standing by the hot water heater, the possibility that the sound could also be from the sound of pipes expanding from the heat. Also, while the timing appeared to be in response to a direct question, it was too erratic to be truly considered paranormal activity. After a short time, Tim moved over to the right side of the room and again Judy and Tim attempted calling. The team members were not able to gain any response while Tim was in this area, so he again moved back to the left side.
Judy again confirmed that she felt a male presence that did not appear to be as distant as before, almost like he was gaining some comfort level with team members being present. Tim again attempted calling when Nate and Jessica appeared at the door. Nate stated that he and Jessica had to leave the area of the small room they were investigating due to the fact both investigators were feeling a significant heaviness in their chests and both were becoming light headed. Nate also stated that he believed something or someone had moved his pant leg. After Jessica and Nate departed, Judy stated that the male presence felt like it had decreased considerably after Jessica and Nate arrived. Both investigators decided that since activity may have decreased, that they too would depart the area.
Basement, Main Area:
After departing the Boiler Room, Tim went to check on the investigators in the basement area, especially the small room due to the fact Nate and Jessica had informed them about what they had experienced. Tim descended the stairs and went down to the end of the basement and spoke to Erin and JJ.
From there he went immediately to the small room to see if Jessica and Nate had returned, which they had. Upon entry, both investigators were stationed side by side and facing the Northwest corner. Jessica stated that she sensed a presence in or near that corner that she felt was the cause of their problems. She stated that she felt her heart rate increase and felt a pressure on her chest.
Jessica also informed Tim that she saw shadows moving in the room, and also stated that she was feeling temperate drops for no apparent reason. Tim then informed both investigators that if they continued to feel uncomfortable to immediately leave the area and Tim would find someone else to relieve them. Jessica also stated that she was considering the fact that it was a small room and that might have some affect on how she feels. She did however state that she needed to have a light on to feel somewhat safe. Tim then traded his red filtered flashlight with Jessica's Faraday light so that it was not as bright and would not affect her eyes as much.
Small Storage Room, Basement:
Tim then left the room and made his way towards Erin and JJ who were stationed at the far end of the room near the door to the office. When Tim got closer, he noticed that JJ appeared to be reciting something that she believed was being delivered to her. She informed Tim that something bad had happened to one individual in that room and that Nate and Jessica were possibly in peril, especially Jessica. Tim also asked if Erin and JJ could trade off with Jessica and Nate. JJ then became quite adamant about Jessica getting out of the room. JJ and Erin then moved quickly past Tim towards the small room, approached Jessica and
escorted her up to the dining room. Tim then explained to Nate what JJ had told him about what the two had just relayed to him. Nate then informed Tim that his stomach felt queasy, and his chest hurt also. Tim stated that he too had tightness in his chest. No sooner had Tim told Nate about what he was feeling, Tim spotted something move out of the corner of his eye. Then Nate stated that he too saw a shadow move just outside of the room in the aisle way. After a minute or two, he reported he saw something else move in the other room. During this time, Tim and Nate kept calling and trying to provoke whatever was in the room to answer them until Nate coughed and informed Tim that he felt like he was getting choked. Tim immediately told Nate he was getting out and escorted him up to the dining room area. Tim then asked where Judy was and called for her on the radio. Tim and Judy then made their way down to the small room again and briefed Judy on what had just happened. Tim informed Judy that JJ stated that someone might have been shot in this room. Judy informed him she was getting a feeling that someone may have been hung. Shortly after telling Tim this, Judy stated that she saw movement again within the room. Judy discussed getting the entire group down there and did state that there was something in there that was bad.
After a short time, Juli and Josh showed up and Judy went back upstairs to insure the other members were ok and on assignments. Immediately upon entry into the room, Juli stated that there was something bad in there. Tim updated Juli and Josh on what was going on. Immediately after that, Josh asked what else was going on in the basement, when Juli interrupted Tim and stated that something touched her. At this point, Tim became more belligerent towards the entity and so did Juli. Suddenly, the infrared thermometer was flipped out of her hand. She stated that it felt like it was flipped from the bottom out of her hand. At this point, all three investigators started provoking the entity into doing something. After a short time, Tim felt something bump his arm. At this point, Tim stated, "Well, that's a start pal". Juli then stated that there was more then one entity in the room. Juli stated that she felt that there was something cowering in a corner off to the left of the members. She also stated that it was afraid of the other entity in the room. Tim asked where the cowering entity was and Juli stated which corner, at which point Josh stated that he detected this entity and pointed out the other entity was directly in front of the team members by the wall.
Tim and Josh then began questioning the cowering entity and asking if there was something that could be done to help him. Juli then stated to him that "This guy isn't gonna let you talk, is he?" referring to the other entity that was affecting the investigators. Juli then stated that the bad entity was not going to bully this group as it had the others and that he should let him go. At this point Juli sensed that the entity was backing off.
Again, Tim tried provocation by asking if the entity had finally run up against someone that he could not bully. Both Juli and Josh stated that they could detect the entity backing off, because it did not know what to do since the investigators were continuing to provoke him. Josh stated that it was like the bad guy was telling him, the cowering entity, to shut up, not tell the team anything, or he would kill him again. Tim was very surprised by what Josh was picking up. Josh went on to add that it felt like some old "Mafia" stuff where the entity in the corner was getting beat up or tortured by the other entity. Tim again tried provoking him and told the bad entity to leave him alone. Soon after stating this, Tim stated that something moved past him on the left side. Josh then asked the entity if it was trying to run away. Juli then stated that she heard what sounded like shuffling sound come from the right side of the room. Juli then stated that she was getting a sharp pain between her eyes. Juli then added that she could describe the entity. He was short and hated this fact, bald, beady little eyes, very bad teeth, and had a hacking smokers cough. After Juli finished the description Tim then stated that he did appear to be scary, but only if he was seen in the daytime due him being ugly. Juli then laughed in agreement at this statement. She stated that she got the feeling that he was not in charge, but some form of middleman or monkey. Tim then asked if he did not have enough courage but had to do another's bidding or be their little toady? Josh then stated that the only way he could make himself feel good was to beat up others. Again Tim provoked him by calling him a cream puff to which Juli laughed at him. At this point both Juli and Josh both offered for him to pick on them because Josh was new and Juli was a woman. Juli asked why he did not try and punch her, to which Josh also invited him to, but asked, "Can you not even reach my face?" Tim then asked if he was so small an individual that you have to get assistance to do what the team felt he had done because he was not man enough, strong enough, or tall enough to do it? Juli then added that when the entity in the corner was "beat up" that the other entity used some other device like a club or bat to do it.
At this point, Tim then stated that from what Juli and Josh were saying that the other entity must be really proud of himself having to do another persons bidding all his life. Juli then added that the entity in the corner appeared to be restrained in the chair by something. It did not appear to be chain or rope, but something soft like a towel or some other material. Tim then asked the other entity if the one that was restrained told him to learn how to use a toothbrush? He then asked if the entity had ever heard of Crest or Colgate to which Juli replied that it was a long time before that was available, and that he probably used baking soda. Tim then asked if he was accustomed to using soap? Or if that was also foreign to him? Tim then stated that he was not going to leave until the entity did something and asked him to "Show me how big a man you aren't." After this both Juli and Josh joined in provoking the entity. Juli told him to "Bring it on Pal." and Josh asked him if we were getting too close to his personal space? Juli then stated that "He probably doesn't want to wrinkle his cheap suit." Tim then asked the entity if it would like Tim to get on his knees so the entity could reach him to hit him. Again, Juli laughed at this statement. She went on to say that it appeared as though the entity was pacing and trying figure out what he could do to affect the team members. Tim then asked if he could go get some of his friends to help, that is if he had any. Juli stated the beyond the group he worked for, he probably did not have any. Tim added that it sounded like hygiene was not high on the entities list either. Again Juli reported that she felt a tug on her shirt. Both Tim and Josh were at least four feet away from her when this occurred. Tim then stated that this incident was a start, but how was he when the people came a little bigger. Juli then stated that she was bigger in a way that the entity did not understand with what she had inside her to fight with and that he did not understand it. Josh then stated that he felt that the entity did not understand what was going on with Juli that he could not affect her as he did the others.
Tim again tried to provoke the entity by telling him to come to him and get him. Josh stated that he again felt like he was retreating to which Tim stated "Isn't that a shame, someone is picking on him." "Isn't that just a bugger." Tim then moved off to the side and told the entity to run past him and get out. Juli then asked if the entity was afraid to move on because of a fear of others or that he did not get something done. Tim then stated that he began to feel tightness in his chest and around his throat, similar to what others had felt.
He then asked if it was all he could do? He stated that it might have scared others, but not him and that he wanted the entity to try something new because this was getting old. Again the team members asked the entity if he wanted to leave. Juli then stated that she saw a pinpoint of light on the wall. Again Juli stated that this did not impress her and that he could not even make her fingers numb. Tim then again tried provoking the entity and spoke of another investigation where there was much more activity and that this was the best he could do?
Again the team members tried provoking the entity. Josh stated that he felt that if the team did not stop aggravating the entity, that he would again began picking on the entity that was bound. Tim then asked the entity what would he do if the team were to bring in someone to release the other entity. Juli then stated that the bad entity would be lost. Tim then suggested that the team stops wasting time on the bad entity and concentrates their efforts on the poor soul bound in the chair. Tim then began addressing the bound entity by stating that the other entity could no longer harm him, and that he could possibly be innocent and that he could not hold him here any longer. Juli then added that even if he were not innocent of everything, that the other entity could no longer harm him, and that he was not beholden to him, and that he could move on, pass over and be free of this idiot. Tim then added that it was ok for him to move on because the other entity could no longer hold him here. Tim then added that he had already served his punishment. Josh then stated that it felt like something bumped him to which Juli responded that it was her that made incidental contact with Josh. Tim then added that the other entity no longer had any control over him, and that the only control he did have was what he was allowing him to have. If he wanted to go, he could go. Josh and Juli then discussed that they were getting an impression that the bound entity felt that whatever was going on was too real, and that could be what was holding him there. They felt that the entity thought that he was still bound to the chair and that could have been what was keeping him from passing over. Tim stated that it was ok to leave that he was not bound to the chair any longer. Tim also added that the only reason he was still there was because he was allowing the other entity to hold him there. Juli informed the entity that it could be hard to grasp the concept that his body was gone, but that it was the reality and that it was time to cross over.
Tim then asked the bound entity to look around, and to see if he saw a light, off in the distance. If he did, concentrate on that light and start moving towards it. Juli stated that all that was binding him to that chair was himself and that he could move towards that light and find peace. Josh then added that he did not have to be tortured anymore. Tim stated that the only reason he was being held there was that the other entity was making him believe that he was doing it, but not anymore and to take away his control. At that point Juli stated that the other entity was now panicking, to which Josh added that it was because he was in danger of losing his toy. Tim again asked the entity to look for the light. Juli added that he should let go of the bondage, let go of what he perceived as the pain. Tim then stated that he saw a very bright reddish colored light in front of the investigators towards the ceiling. Tim again asked him to let go of him, take away his strength and move on. At that point Juli stated that she felt so much lighter that she thought, "This guy is really going to go." At that point Josh added that he too felt light, especially in the arms. Again Tim stated that he again saw something-flash bright red on the wall. Again, Juli and Josh discussed that they both sensed something was happening. Then Juli asked if anyone else had seen the bright flash, almost like someone was taking a picture.
Josh too asked if someone was taking a picture to which Juli added that she did not know she just saw a bright flash. (Note: No team member in this room had a camera or any sort of device that could cause this sort of anomaly.) Josh again reiterated that he was feeling very light. Tim again asked the bound entity to move towards the light, that the other entity could no longer hold him here. Again, all team members saw a brilliant flash of red light up towards the ceiling. Tim then stated that there had to be something up there to cause this. Tim turned on his flashlight and the team member began looking for some sort of sensor or some other device that could cause the flash.
All the team members were able to see were some pipes going through the wall by the ceiling. Josh again stated that he felt very light, and Juli pointed out that the other flash that she had seen was lower on the wall. Again Tim informed him that if he could see the light, to move towards it. At that point she asked "Pete, can you help him move toward the light?" "Help him find the light, help him find the direction of the light." "Help him find peace, please, please." Josh and Juli both encouraged the entity to move on, and that there were so many souls waiting to help him. Tim then added that he could leave, he did not have to stay. Immediately after Tim finished speaking, Josh stated that it felt like the room was half-empty, to which Juli agreed. Josh then added that the corner in which the entity once held was now just part of the room. Again, Tim informed the others that he had seen another red flash of light that appeared dimmer then the others they had witnessed. After this, Josh stated that he did not feel the bad entity there anymore, to which Juli added that if he was still there, he was very far away. Tim then asked if the bad entity had left. Juli stated that she could feel his residual energy but that it was not nearly as strong. Josh then stated that he felt like the bad entity was hiding to which Juli agreed.
Tim then informed Josh and Juli that his chest was no longer tight. Juli agreed to this also. He then asked if the others had seen the light that was flashing to which Josh and Juli again agreed. Juli then stated that no one else should have anything to fear from in that room anymore. That without that guy that was tied to the chair, the other entity had no power, that he had nothing anymore. Tim then asked what happened to the guy in the chair to which Juli replied that he was gone. Tim again asked "Gone?" to which Juli replied, "Gone!" At this point, all the investigators were somewhat excited that they had indeed released the bound entity and drastically diminished the other entities power. Juli also stated that she believed that "Pete did it, that he helped point him in the direction." Tim then stated the room has definitely changed. Tim then congratulated the other team members, but stated that this was a realm that he did not want to get into when HPT was begun, but he was glad that they had done it. Juli then added that she too was glad and that the bound entity did need some help.
The Team then moved up towards the dining room area. While going through the kitchen, Tim stopped to check on the tape in the video player and determined it needed to be changed. He first left the recorder in the dining room and then returned a few minutes later to pick it up. He then went up to the banquet room and informed JJ, Erin, and Jessica what had happened in the basement. Erin informed him that the video camera was beeping. He then stated that the tape probably needed to be changed. Tim then suggested some other place for the team members to go next. Nate stated that he did not like the boiler room, but was willing to go back down there. He then suggested that Juli and Judy go down to table #11 with Hope and Bill and see if they could get any evidence or get a glass to move that was placed there at the beginning of the investigation as a trigger object.
Kitchen Area:
Juli and Josh spent a brief time in the kitchen area. When Tim was on his way to pick up videotape, he stopped in to check on the investigators. Juli stated that she had a sharp sensation in the center of her forehead. Tim also stated that when he was walking through the area, he saw a shadow go across the ceiling and saw a streak of light that appeared to go around a corner towards the basement stairs.
While there was a video camera set up on the counter, no other evidence was recorded in this area. Juli stated that she heard what sounded like a clang or a bell in this area though. No one else reported hearing it.
Banquet Area:
Erin, JJ, Jessica and Judy were investigators that were in this area at various times. Most notable occurrence was the ghostmeter that appeared to stop and start when it was asked to. Also, one investigator believed that an entity touched her hair while in this area. While Juli and Josh were in the room, they detected a shadow that appeared to move across the room. Juli and Josh also utilized a digital thermometer to take temperature readings. They determined that there was a 3 to 4 degree difference directly under the chandelier in the banquet room. Team members who were sensitive detected the presence of at least two female entities and one male entity in the banquet area. None of these entities were reported as malicious.
Basement Hallway Area:
Erin, JJ, Tim, Juli, Josh and Nate were investigators in this area at various times. Activity that was reported in this area included shadows moving in the hallway area, shadows moving both towards and away from investigators in various areas of the hallway. Erin also reported a black mist like anomaly on the stairs shortly after turning off the lights. JJ and Erin also reported that they believed that someone was communicating with them in this area to include an account of one investigator being touched and the other investigator reporting seeing what appeared to be a faint anomaly on the investigators shoulder. No investigator sensed any ill intent from whatever entity was detected in this area. The general impression that all investigators got was that if there was an entity in this area that it was either playful or protective of the workers and owners. Nate also reported tightness in his chest, not as intense as in the smaller room. Tim also reported this feeling when Nate and him were stationed in the far end of the hallway nearest the office door. Also, persons in this area felt temperature changes. The investigators also tried calling and provoking any entity in the area to do something. Tim also reported something touching him while in the area and both Nate and Tim reported seeing a blue lights flash at the far end of the hall. Juli also reported feeling her right hand/arm was getting cool and numb like something was drawing energy from her. Nate also stated that he felt something brush against his arm while on a vigil in this area. Josh later on noticed some light that appeared to be filtering through between the wall and ceiling that may have attributed to some of the light anomalies the team had been experiencing.
Dining Room Area:
A video camera was isolated on table #11, which is in the corner by the kitchen doors. A trigger object, a wineglass filled with water, was placed on the table. In the past, the owners have reported that a wineglass placed on this table would move by itself. Also, sensitive team members had reported sensing the presence of an endearing female presence in this area. Other occurrences include utensils flying off of what appears to be a set-up counter opposite of table #11, and while on a walk through of the location, Tim felt something pull on his shirt while his back was towards the set up counter.
A compass was also placed on table #11 and oriented so that the needle was pointing directly north on the compass face. While seated at the table, Judy did notice that the needle on the compass did move slightly and return to the original orientation of due north. When joined at the table with Hope and Bill, no activity appeared to take place. There was no movement from the glass on the table.

Sensitive Team members detected multiple "entities" within various areas of the building consisting of at least three females and possibly five males
Team members engaged in "releasing" one entity that appeared to be held in a room by another entity
Investigators heard audible sounds while in specific areas of the building, but were not able to determine a cause or reasonable explanation for them…i.e. Chimes in Office area, male voice in the stairway area, scratching sounds on the wall in the banquet area
A piece of equipment was "flipped" out of an investigators hand in a small room in the basement
One team member, while sitting in the office chair, felt that they were pulled backwards twice
Fluctuation on a compass positioned on table #11 for no apparent reason
Investigators reported seeing the movement of shadows in the banquet room
Multiple investigators reported seeing significant shadow movement in the basement area
Unexplained cold spots in the banquet area and office area
Apparent equipment response when investigators were posing questions to an entity believed to be in the room
One team member reported the sensation of tingling, numbness, and cold in a hand and arm in certain areas of the basement
Conclusion...
A variety of activities were reported to the Hastings Paranormal Team prior to beginning the investigation. Before, during and after the investigation, several employees also relayed stories about occurrences that they had also experienced. Several team members experienced a sensation of chest tightness, with some also reporting a sensation of being choked while in a small room within the basement. Numerous shadows were seen moving in the basement area, many of which were viewed by multiple team members at the same time for which no reasonable explanation could be determined. Unexplained cold spots were detected both using an infrared thermometer and through personal experiences. These cold spots were experienced in the office area and banquet areas, with some reproduction in the basement area that could have been the result of air movement. Equipment manipulation was experienced which appeared to be in direct response to investigator requests. Other investigators stationed in the same area also confirmed these incidents.
The most notable activity occurred in a small room within the basement. One owner stated during the preliminary walk through that she did not feel comfortable in this particular room and would not enter there. Investigators stationed in this area experienced chest heaviness, a choking sensation and had to either depart or be escorted out of the room. Shadows and light anomalies were experienced in this area also. The team, through use of one confirmed sensitive, one investigator in training with sensitive abilities determined that one malevolent entity was holding another entity "hostage" within this area. Through intense work by these team members, the "hostage" was released and allowed to move on, thus significantly diminishing the remaining entity power.
Evaluation of recorded evidence seems to indicate that there may be both "entities" which are grounded in the building and some that may be there in visitation. This appears to be more prevalent in the banquet area, but may not be limited to solely this area.
After careful evaluation of all evidence and experiences by team members, there is strong evidence to support the fact that there is significant paranormal activity occurring for which the only conclusion can be that the location is haunted by multiple entities.
With the exception of one entity that was identified and found to be malevolent within a small room located in the basement, Team members did not receive any other indication that any other entity that may remain or come in visitation has any ill intent. Entities which team members did believe to contact found that these Entities remained in the location out of choice, or purpose. Also, female Entities that remain in the dining and banquet area gave an impression that they were pleased with the direction the current ownership is heading with the business. Through the "clearing" or "releasing" of one entity that appeared to be held "hostage" by a malevolent entity, the strength of the malevolent entity was significantly reduced to a point where it no longer was felt to be a threat by the team members. This entity was located within the small storage room in the basement.
It is further recommended that additional investigations be considered to better identify, if possible, who these entities may be and their purpose for either remaining there or visiting the location. Information gather by Sensitives during the course of the investigation indicates that two of the female entities may be former owners, and one male entity may remain due to an attachment from a past experience.
